Con más de 30 años de experiencia, ha centrado su carrera en ofrecer soluciones avanzadas para enfermedades oculares, tanto mediante la práctica clínica como a través de la investigación y el desarrollo tecnológico en el campo de la oftalmología.
El Dr. Jiménez Román obtuvo su título de Médico Cirujano en la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), una de las instituciones más prestigiosas del país. Posteriormente, se especializó en oftalmología, donde comenzó su enfoque hacia las enfermedades que afectan el nervio óptico, particularmente el glaucoma. A menudo, el glaucoma se desarrolla sin síntomas evidentes, lo que hace que el diagnóstico temprano sea crucial. El Dr. Jiménez ha sido un defensor incansable de la detección temprana a través de exámenes oftalmológicos preventivos, especialmente en pacientes con factores de riesgo, como aquellos mayores de 60 años o con antecedentes familiares de glaucoma.
Una de las principales técnicas que utiliza en su clínica para detectar el glaucoma de manera temprana es la tomografía óptica coherente (OCT), que permite detectar daños en las fibras nerviosas del ojo incluso antes de que aparezcan problemas de visión. El Dr. Jiménez y su equipo atienden diariamente entre 120 y 150 pacientes en las distintas sedes del Global Glaucoma Institute, ubicadas en Ciudad de México, Guadalajara y Monterrey. Su misión es ofrecer atención de la más alta calidad, utilizando tecnología de vanguardia y brindando un enfoque integral que incluye la nutrición y el manejo de condiciones metabólicas que afectan la salud visual, como la diabetes.
Además de su labor clínica, el Dr. Jiménez ha enfatizado la importancia de la educación y la concienciación sobre el glaucoma y otras enfermedades oculares. Según sus estimaciones, el 4% de la población en México tiene glaucoma, y lo preocupante es que el 75% de ese grupo no sabe que padece la enfermedad. Por esta razón, se ha enfocado en campañas de sensibilización para que más personas acudan a revisiones oftalmológicas regulares.
La tecnología ha sido una aliada clave en la práctica del Dr. Jiménez Román. A lo largo de su carrera, ha sido pionero en implementar técnicas de diagnóstico avanzado para la detección temprana de glaucoma y otras enfermedades del ojo. Utiliza métodos como la tomografía óptica de coherencia, el cálculo del lente intraocular y estudios de campo visual, entre otros, para obtener diagnósticos precisos. Estos avances han permitido al Dr. Jiménez detectar el glaucoma incluso 10 años antes de que aparezcan los primeros síntomas en el campo visual del paciente.
Además de su trabajo clínico, el Dr. Jiménez ha explorado el uso de telemedicina para consultas a distancia, lo que ha facilitado el acceso a la atención oftalmológica en pacientes que no pueden acudir físicamente a las clínicas. Esta innovación ha sido fundamental durante la pandemia, cuando las consultas presenciales se vieron limitadas.
Como parte de su compromiso con la salud visual, el Dr. Jiménez ha sido un activo defensor de la educación y la concienciación sobre las enfermedades oculares. A través del Global Glaucoma Institute, ha liderado iniciativas para educar a la población sobre la importancia de las revisiones oftalmológicas regulares y la detección temprana de enfermedades que, si no se tratan a tiempo, pueden llevar a la ceguera.
El Dr. Jiménez también ha sido un impulsor del concepto de check-up oftalmológico, un examen integral que permite evaluar la salud visual de manera general y detectar cualquier anomalía en etapas tempranas. Este enfoque preventivo ha demostrado ser altamente efectivo, especialmente en pacientes con retinopatía diabética, una condición común en personas con diabetes que, de no ser tratada, puede llevar a la pérdida total de la visión.
El Dr. Jesús Jiménez Román se ha consolidado como uno de los oftalmólogos más importantes de México, especialmente en el campo del glaucoma.
