Dr. Ali Çetinkaya and Team: Exceptional Care from Arrival to Departure
From the moment I landed in Istanbul, I knew I was in good hands. Dr. Çetinkaya's team arranged airport pickup and transportation to my hotel, and the following day I was escorted to meet Dr. Çetinkaya and then to the hospital for pre-surgical testing — with a nurse by my side the entire time. That level of attentiveness set the tone for everything that followed.
The hotel had a 24-hour nurse on duty throughout my stay, and a nurse visited me each day after surgery — most days it was Nurse Ayse, and when she wasn't available, Nurse Koray stepped in seamlessly. Both were wonderful beyond words. The first night post-op, Nurse Lola actually slept in my room — and as someone traveling alone, that meant everything. I never once felt vulnerable or uncertain about what to do.
I had a significant amount of work done: a deep plane facelift, neck lift, temporal lift, brow lift, upper and lower eye surgery, and a canthoplasty. The results have exceeded my expectations in every way.
When I decided to extend my stay — spending an extra week across what I believe was the Bosphorus — the team continued to support me without missing a beat, and arranged my transportation to the airport when I was ready to leave.
Dr. Çetinkaya and his entire team are extraordinary. I felt genuinely cared for every single day, and I could not be happier with my outcome. If you are considering this type of surgery and are weighing your options, I cannot recommend Dr. Ali Çetinkaya highly enough.

I cannot recommend Dr Ali enough. His team are amazing also, which really helps the entire process. The standard of care and professionalism is way beyond anything in the UK. The hospital he uses is absolutely top end and the hotel they book is incredible also with a 24 hour, on site staffed and equipped infirmary which really helps your peace of mind. The team are wonderfully responsive, responding to any messages almost immediately. His work is beautiful. Since I had my face done by Dr Ali, 2 of my friends have been to him for theirs too. It is daunting to fly abroad for surgery. All I can say is everything could not have gone more smoothly or any better.

In September 2025, I underwent an endoscopic facelift and neck lift with DR ALI CETINKAYA in Istanbul, Turkey. Following the surgery, I developed multiple serious complications, including:
• Tissue necrosis along both temporal incision lines, resulting in permanent scarring alopecia.
•Persistent blurred vision in my right eye that has never returned to normal.
•Hypertrophic scarring behind my left ear and pixie ears deformities
• Lagophthalmos (2 mm incomplete closure of my right eye) and lateral canthal over-tightening, as documented by a board-certified oculoplastic surgeon.
• Severe neck tightness that made swallowing and opening my mouth difficult for several months, along with a persistent sensation of a lump in my throat that continues to this day.
Overall, the aesthetic outcome of the surgery is very poor. My facial features became noticeably distorted, while the intended rejuvenating effect was not achieved. In fact, I look older, not younger.
For the first two months, severe skin tethering, deep unnatural indentations, and tissue pulling left me unable to work or live a normal life.
My eyes became smaller, excessively upturned, and unnatural. I developed new under-eye bags and skin bunching that never existed before surgery, and my right eye is now noticeably smaller than my left.
Several facial plastic and oculoplastic surgeons told me that they believed my complications were primarily related to excessive tissue tension and an overly aggressive vector of pull.
I now face complex revision surgery to correct my eyes, under-eye deformities, and pixie ears, as well as a hair transplant. The procedures will be emotionally exhausting and extremely expensive.
After I provided Dr. Ali with medical notes from a board-certified oculoplastic surgeon, he stopped communicating with me. He said it was because I had sought other medical opinions and discussed my complications in facelift-related WhatsApp groups. I had no choice but to seek help from other specialists, and after I shared photos of my complications in his official WhatsApp group, I was removed from it.
Complications can happen to any plastic surgeon. What defines a surgeon is how they respond. A responsible surgeon stands by their patient, helps manage complications, and, when appropriate, offers revision surgery or contributes to corrective treatment.
In my opinion, abandoning a patient after serious complications is neither professional nor ethical.

I traveled internationally to Dr. Cetinkaya for a full facelift, revision brow lift, and facial fat grafting. This was my second brow lift, so I was very clear during my consultation that my goal was increased eyebrow height with a defined arch, not simply a lateral pull of the outer brow. I also specifically discussed correcting facial asymmetry through fat grafting.
Unfortunately, the main concerns were not corrected. After paying for two separate brow procedures, my eyebrow height is essentially unchanged from before surgery. The result appears to be mostly a lateral pull rather than the lifted brow shape and height I specifically requested. When I later reviewed my preoperative records, I was disappointed to see that the brow height and shape we discussed were not documented in the surgical plan. I had even asked if he was taking notes during the consultation and he assured me, "I know what you want".
The fat grafting was also disappointing. After requesting my operative report multiple times over approximately six weeks, I found that the report documented the same amount of fat placed in corresponding areas on both sides of my face, despite my specific concern regarding asymmetry and stating one side needed a lot more added.
Postoperative care was another major issue. After returning to the United States, communication became very limited, and the office never proactively checked in on my recovery. At six weeks post-op, I still have no movement on one side of my forehead. I understand nerve weakness can occur and healing takes time, but my concern was the lack of follow-up, guidance, and reassurance. Movement better return real soon!
I was also surprised by the financial communication. During my office visit, I was told my deposit was not reduced from the full surgical price because I paid 60% by credit card. This was not something that had been clearly communicated beforehand and I was charged the lipo fee for the fat grafting, which I was told (and have in writing) they would not do beforehand.
I also recommend looking beyond early postoperative photos when evaluating results. Many photos shared publicly appear to be from the first week after surgery, while there are far fewer examples of fully healed, long-term outcomes.
Traveling internationally for a facelift and revision procedures requires a significant investment of money, time, and trust. My advice is to ensure every specific aesthetic goal is clearly documented before surgery and not rely solely on verbal discussions. My experience was that I was told what I wanted to hear during consultation, but the final result did not reflect the goals I had clearly communicated.
