Radioterapia para tumor cerebral en CDD Radioterapia

Acerca de la clínica

CDD Radioterapia is a specialized radiotherapy and radiosurgery center in the Dominican Republic. It treats patients at two locations in Santo Domingo and La Romana. The team focuses on oncology, including breast, brain, and colorectal cancers. Its 10 specialists trained at Yale University and the Complutense University of Madrid.

Dr. Wilson Mourad founded the center in 2012. It was the first in the country to perform SBRT treatments. In 2018, the clinic earned a quality certification from the European Society for Radiotherapy & Oncology. This confirms correct dose distribution for advanced radiation treatments. The center also holds certifications from 2016 and 2017.

The facility uses Halcyon and CLINAC 21 IX linear accelerators by Varian Medical Systems. Diagnostics include the PET-CT Discovery IQ with LightBurst technology for sharp imaging. Specialists apply respiratory gating and image-guided radiotherapy to improve accuracy. Before each session, they run real-time anatomical comparisons with high-definition PortalVision imaging.

CDD Radioterapia: más detalles acerca de la clínica

República Dominicana, Santo Domingo

CDD Radioterapia is a specialized oncology center founded in 2012 by Dr. Wilson Mourad. It operates as the radiotherapy and radiosurgery service of Clinic Abreu in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. A second location in Romana del Oeste expands regional access to cancer care. The medical team includes 10 physicians trained at institutions such as Yale University and the Madrid Institute of Oncology.

Quality Standards and Certifications

The clinic meets international quality benchmarks for radiation delivery. In July 2018, it received the first radiotherapy quality certification in the Dominican Republic. The European Society for Radiotherapy & Oncology (ESTRO) issued this recognition. Evaluation by the EQUALESTRO dosimetric laboratory confirmed the clinic's ability to deliver correct dose distribution for complex treatments. The center also earned additional quality certifications in 2016 and 2017.

Oncology and Radiotherapy Services

The oncology department offers advanced radiotherapy for various malignant conditions. Specialists perform external-beam treatments and stereotactic approaches for different tumor sites. The clinic treats several cancer types:

  • Breast and gynecological cancers
  • Colorectal, stomach, and bowel cancers
  • Brain tumors and throat cancer
  • Kidney, testicular, and ovarian cancers
  • Sarcomas and lymphomas

Techniques include Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) and 3D radiotherapy. For tumor movement, the clinic uses Image-Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT). This method keeps treatment accurate when organs shift during sessions. The center performed its first Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) in February 2012. Both intra-cranial and extra-cranial radiosurgery are available.

Advanced Imaging and Treatment Technology

CDD Radioterapia uses equipment from Varian Medical Systems and General Electric. Diagnostic services rely on the PET-CT Discovery IQ, which features a LightBurst detector for sharper images. This helps physicians spot small tumor lesions while using lower radiation doses. The imaging suite supports oncology, cardiology, and neurology applications. Specialized PET-CT scans using Gallium 68 (PSMA, DOTA, and DOTATATE) allow precise staging.

For treatment delivery, the clinic uses high-energy linear accelerators. The Halcyon platform was the first of its kind installed in Hispanoamérica by CDD. It enables high-speed, simplified radiotherapy workflows. The center also operates the CLINAC 21 IX platform with Respiratory Gating technology. This activates the radiation beam only during specific phases of the patient's breath, so healthy tissue stays protected during chest or abdominal treatments.

Real-time verification is standard before each session. Physicians use high-definition PortalVision imaging for anatomical comparisons. Planning systems use dynamic multilaminar collimators to shape radiation beams precisely. The clinic also offers Tomotherapy, which combines CT imaging with radiotherapy delivery. All hardware is installed as new equipment.

International Patient Care

International patients receive care based on certified radiotherapy standards. The clinical team includes specialists like Dr. Victor Moreno and Dr. Isabel Reyes. Diagnostic evaluations often use FDG tracers to identify high concentrations in tumor cells. This data guides the radiotherapist's choice of technique and energy levels. The center coordinates all follow-up support within its oncologic patient management program.
